AROUND THE WORLD people yearn to find peace and give solace to the suffering and bereaved. Once again the clash of polarised enemies clamours for attention.

Al-Qaeda takes pride in this heinous and sordid crime, while Western nations seek to bring the terrorists to justice. Yet it would be naive to take the simple way out and call this an example of pure evil and depravity.

MY MOTHER USED to tell me a Jain story when I was a child. Adam was lost in the jungle where he encountered two wild elephants. They began to chase him. In order to escape from these frightening beasts Adam climbed a tall tree nearby but the elephants were not to let him go so easily; they curled their trunks around the tree and began to shake it furiously.

MANY SPIRITUAL WRITERS have observed, “When you meet another person, you are encountering something in yourself.” It’s easy to say a simple, subtle thing like that and pass it by. Treat it as a truism and don’t do anything about it. But maybe this ancient idea is more important and has more wisdom than we think.

Beyond

Today, decide that you will look beyond you will look beyond your own point of view. Say to someone, “tell me more about how you see things.” It’s easy to find a time to do that- just wait until you think you have the most important thing to say, then stop and let someone else speak instead. The soul takes all points of view, and the more you imitate that habit, the more spiritual your life will become.

Our life doesn't always unfold as per our plans. There are always some unknown events that show up in our life and throws our life into chaos. What I mean by chaos is when these events show up in our life, we are under pressure/tension, we are scattered, we don't know what to do, what choices to make, don't know how these events would turnout.
